Aboriginal Education
Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people are supported at Balaklava High School to strive for excellence and to create successful pathways beyond high school. We endeavor to create learning environments that include students’ cultural needs. All students work with teachers and families to develop detailed individual learning plans for Aboriginal learners at all of our schools. The school’s Aboriginal Education Teacher works closely with students, families and the Partnership Aboriginal Community Education Officer to provide opportunities for growth and connection to land and culture. Our students in Year 10 to 12 are supported to be a part of the South Australian Aboriginal Secondary Training Academy (SAASTA) in the Far North and Flinders Academy. Through SAASTA, students have a wide variety of opportunities including involvement in the Power Cup and a range of TAFE certificates as well as being able to use this training towards their SACE.
